Kids dug right into community service at the kick-off meeting for Paul Ecke Central Elementary School’s first chapter of Kids Korps, a nonprofit group that matches youth and teen volunteers to area community service projects.
Digging into pails of soil and seeds, they molded more than 500 seed balls that will be used to reforest areas of the Cleveland National Forest decimated by recent wildfires. makingseedsballJPG
More than 30 families attended the kick-off at the Leucadia school, eager to sign up and get their hands dirty with service projects.  The Paul Ecke chapter plans to do service projects at lunchtime and after school through Kids Korps.
Kids Korps began in 1995 with a mission to make children more aware of their environments and provide them with opportunities to contribute to the positive welfare of their communities. The Solana Beach-based non-profit now has chapters in several states and has thousands of kids ages 5 to 18 helping their communities.
