Youth at Monroe Clark Middle School and Wilson Middle School will have the opportunity to participate in service projects throughout the year.

The future of our planet and the future of our youth will come together in the here and now on Saturday, February 7th, 2009 from 6:30 PM to Midnight at Irwin M. Jacobs Qualcomm Hall, as Kids Korps Presents ECO Ball 2009. This eco-friendly celebration will showcase the rewards of sustainable living while raising funds to support the endeavors of Kid Korps, which teaches the youth of today the value of giving back for their future.

This one of a kind green event will practice what it preaches as it takes the evening’s theme and runs wild with it. Every detail of the evening’s festivities incorporates green living. Invitations, signage, and all collateral material will be printed with soy-based inks on recycled materials. Local suppliers will be chosen to create the evening’s menu and eco-conscious floral arrangements while guests sample organic wines and liquors.

The highlight of the evening will be Ecouture, an eco-friendly fashion show featuring sustainable fashions, from clothiers that reduce energy and natural resource consumption, are sensitive to material composition and origins, and impose reduce/reuse/recycle within their creations. To further contribute and reduce waste, all leftover food items will be properly packaged and donated to a local shelter to help feed those less fortunate. This year’s event is a true party with a purpose.

Every year Kids Korps hosts this fund raising event to celebrate and support the success of their youth and teen volunteers and this year’s mission is more expansive than ever. The event has drawn hundreds of attendees each year who understand the importance of the Kids Korps mission and the impact that these youth volunteers provide. The ECO Ball 2009 celebration will parallel its mission with the family friendly festival in the spring. Together, ECO Ball 2009 and Green Korps Fest 2009, will expand the reach of our youth volunteers not only for the good of the community but the good of the planet. February 7th, 2009, guests will attend the first “Eco Ball” presented by Kids Korps USA. From conception of the event to the farewell of the evening, Eco Ball will be  a “green” event. Unique touches from recycled papers, to soy-based inks, organic liquors and wines, cold-water washed linens, and food and flowers from local growers will culminate in an event of surprise and delight. After a delectable organic meal, guests will be engaged by the Live Auction which, year after year, is an exciting component of the annual event. The evening will be “wrapped up” for the needy. Left over food will be packaged and taken to a local shelter to feed those in need while reducing waste from the event.

Want to help kids in other parts of the world get the things they need to survive and grow? You’ve got the power to do it!

This October, make Halloween count by Trick-or-Treating for UNICEF. You can help us get water, education and medicine to the children who need it most.

Getting involved is easy and fun! Stop by the Kids Korps office and pick up a box for you and your friends.Then go door-to-door on Halloween-or create your own fundraiser-and ask everyone to help you raise money for kids around the world. Once you’ve collected the money, send it to UNICEF (directions are on the box) to help save kids lives. Each volunteer who collects for UNICEF on Halloween will receive 2 service hours credits. Just e-mail Robin to let her know that you participated in Trick-or-Treating for UNICEF.
